Welch Design LLC is a residential design firm north of Chicago in Grayslake, Illinois. We design new homes as well as make design changes in your existing home. We specialize in accessible and sustainable design.
When Patsy Welch, president of Welch Design, was 52 she went back to school and received her Master of Architecture degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2006. While in graduate school specializing in sustainable design, her elderly parents began to have physical difficulties. She saw firsthand how the condo they had been living in for over 25 years had become a dangerous place with uneven floor surfaces, dark hallways and small cramped bathrooms increasing their risk of falls. As a result, Ms. Welch began to explore ways to design a home that could easily adapt to one's needs, no matter what one's physical abilities might be.
In 2017 Ms. Welch received an Executive Certificate in Home Modification from the University of Southern California's Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. Whether a client wants to age in place or has a disability, Ms. Welch can make a detailed assessment of a home and advise clients on specific ways to improve their home making it safe and comfortable.
